I celebrated Diwali this year. The aura felt good. Everything was so sober.

The events leading up to it:

The front page picture in TOI- The electronic screen at NASDAQ reading “Celebrating Indian festival Diwali on 21st October”. I felt proud to be an Indian.

Sudhanshu and myself going crazy in the downpour on the eve of Diwali. He almost fainted and I lost control over my cycle and was about to crash into the pavement.

25+ first yearites coming to wish me at 2 AM. It was scary. Mirror this scene with the one in Yuva where Ajay Devgan leads a mob of college students to Sonu Sood’s house. Fortunately for me, they have still not learnt to celebrate occasions hostel style. They woke me up and I just hugged each one of them.

The login page of Orkut designed for Diwali. The logo looked beautiful.

The 20 minutes of peace at the Gurudwara.

Had sweets at the residence of the faculty :)

I wore the turban for the first time in the campus. People took time to recognize me. I now plan to wear it often.

No firecrackers, no glamour, kept it simple, elegant and it felt good. The only regret, it was a Saturday, didn’t get an extra day off :(

Though for the day : If you think you are too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room.

BTP, X, Y & Me

October 15, 2006 · 4 Comments

My worst fears have come true and this is just the beginning. It is 4.15 AM and I am working on the first phase of my project report. We need to submit the same to our guide at 10 AM(Observe the transition from I to we). There is no compulsion except that I had assured our guide on Wednesday that we shall complete the work by Monday. I committed the blunder of saying “WE”.

Our guide, respected Dr. Deb had asked us to start working on the first phase of the report before he went on his 10 day puja holidays. He had instructed me, both X & Y were missing. Old adage:Time flies. In my defense I had a seminar to present on turbulent seperated flows. I had only three days of rest before our guide returned. On Wednesday, X & Y give his lecture a miss and I, again have to face him alone. I bargain for more time and the deadline shifts to Monday. On Sunday evening at 19:12 hrs X shoots a mail

dear bhai log

please let me know who shall take the initiative to collect the other two
and get the work done. i have done my part in taking initiative by this mail
:D .

At 19.31.14 hrs Y replies with

lo maine bhi reply kar diya…ab jassi ke haath mein hi sab kucch hai...”

Playlist : Iman ka asar – Dor , Yaar ko Humne – Abida Parveen, Gladiator Theme – Enya, Lal Meri – Junoon, Long Time Coming – Oliver James, Jaane kya Jaane – Pyaar ke Side effects, Kya Mujhe pyaar hai – Woh lamhe…

Thought for the day : Some people drown their worries, others take them out and give them swimming lessons.

Testimonials and me

October 11, 2006 · 5 Comments

There are still 7 months left before I graduate and atleast three before I have to follow the ritual of writing testimonials. But it is all about physics and Newton’s laws of motions.. You only need to overcome the inertia. Its been two years since I started chirkuting and till yesterday I had not written a testimonial for any of my friends.

The impulse (second law of motion) required was provided by Roohi and followed by Sudhasnhu. Both were spontaneous. I have gained momentum and many more will follow soon. Expect surprises, true opinions and observations. No cliches to be included, only straight-from-the-heart  expressions. But I also assure that they would be edited for the good of everybody. The beauty lies in leaving certain questions unanswered. However, the unedited version would find its way to the inbox of my dear friends.

I admire all those whom I refer to as friends (They are not many, excluding the acquaintances), for their strengths and their weaknesses. The reason behind the whole exercise it to express my respect for them.

Another addition to the first-time-in-IITG list : In 30 minutes I light (my first) four cigarettes (used a lighter). Im only a passive smoker and have no plans to smoke the one I light.

Thought for the day : When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself.
