Thats Chetan Bhagat’s second novel @ 95 bucks. The story is well laid out.The one liners give an extra punch to the narration which in any case is good.

He sure is at his narrative best when it comes to sex(And seems to get better by every book). If it was the professor’s house in Five point someone, this time around it was the back seat of a Toyota Qualis metaphorically referred as “Confined Spaces”.The usual slangs
viz. F$!# and its derivatives are sprinkled throughout the story.

One reason why his books make interesting reading or are fun is coz he connects really well to the mindset of today’s youth;be it his naration abt the fact tht guys actually browse through the seat reservation chart of a train bogie just to check which female within the age grp of say 18-25 might be seated near them or his converying the message to the junta to work on one’s dark side in a very subtle manner.Though the means used, the funda of God calling might not be the best(which it isn’t,the naration is just decent here and not very convincing) the message is well conveyed.

This concerns me a bit too.The fact that books on losers find their way to the bestsellers’ section of Crossword almost everytime. It to me seems that people find comfort in the sob stories of an individual.Be it Catcher in the Rye by Salinger,Chetan’s previous book or this one,all have in them the protagnist(s) as someone who craves for success and still has a long way to go.He has nothing but his failures to narrate and uses a defense machanism to sulk under it.Why not write about a successful guy and touch upon his dark side and the defence mechanism he uses to make his life better. If the junta asociates themselves with this, you will sure get to see more optimisim in the aura around you. I guess in the end its the revenues that make the difference.

All in all a good book which can be very easily completed in 3-4 readings and worth the price too.

With Alcher coming next weekend,I recollect his words (He had come down to our campus in April ‘05) that cult fests in IITs are all about eye candy. Buses loaded with gals come to the campus in the morning and unfortunately buses when they leave the campus in the evening are packed with gals. And not to forget his punchline-”Who decides if its right or wrong”!!!

O Yuva yuva…

January 24, 2006 · 1 Comment

Its not often that ET reports of a new national political party being floated. So it caught my eye when they included an article on Paritrana. The members are:

1.Tanmay Rajpurohit, the national president of the party and B Tech in aerospace from IIT Bombay followed by an MS from GeorgiaTech and double masters in arts.

2.Ajit Ashwalayan Shukla, vice president of the party. He too is an IITian.

3.Amit Beesen, also the vice president and a B Tech (Mechanical) from IIT Bombay and a LLB graduate.

4.Chandrashekhar (national treasurer), B Tech (computer science) from IIT Kanpur.

5.Bharat Sundaram, the PRO of the party and B Tech from IIT Kanpur and PhD in electronics from Melbourne.

All five,in their late 20s hail from middle class families with no godfathers in mainstream politics. As Shukla puts it,“Paritrana means complete relief from the various causes of distress, and that is what we want to do for our people. We strongly feel that the politicians of today are no longer the voice of the common man but instead they voice their own personal agendas through which they can fetch maximum votes. We are not here for the power game. We are here to deal with the grassroots issues of each and every small village that we come across.”

After the launch of the party at the Suchana Kendra in Jodhpur, the party members, as a part of their promotional campaign will tour Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Chennai.

My best wishes for Paritrana.

SMS $%*! to vote for “Crap”

January 24, 2006 · Leave a Comment

It was the saas bahu saga followed by game shows and now the latest bug is the “talent” hunt where the junta gets to vote.

The Airtel and the Reliance Telecom customers of Assam had their sms inbox flooded with messages asking them to vote for Debojit on Sa Re Ga Ma as he is the  “pride of  Assam.” There are hoardings on the street of Ghy too.(No doubt he leads the vote count,98% of his votes were from Assam, and the other participants stage a walkout)The Ulfa Commander threatens the brand manager of the same show with dire consequences if Debojit loses and accuses the show of being not fair.Judges shed tears when better contestants are voted out and even stage walkouts!!!Print Media makes the sobbing picture of a contestant voted out their USP.

Isn’t this making mockery of the talented contestants.Don’t shatter the morale of the already dejected and sometimes undeservedly voted out contestants. Its surprising as to how the junta gets to decide between the better and the best.Let this responsibility be with the professionals. Junta is best in making a bollywood rap song a hit !!!

On a positive note.

January 22, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Well I finally start blogging. The previous attempt failed coz I couldn’t decide on the best way to start.Well not sure this time too but I begin,on a positive note about myself.

What is it that I have really enjoyed doing over the last few months…definitely not acads.Long drives do give me an adrenaline kick. The 120kmph blast(Thats the maximum I have dared to reach) on the eastern express highway, man that was an ecstatic feeling.Building on new ideas, yes. The Entrepreneurial development cell(EDC) made me feel the scope that lies in the junta here. The Inter IIT endeavour, though more of a failed adventure taught me a few more good lessons. My cousin’s wedding where the entire family turned up.The moment of the occassion was when the Pal khandaan was captured in one frame(hats off to the photographer).Bid adieu to 2005,if it was on the banks of Brahmaputra around a bonfire last year, this time around it was a night out at a friend’s place.Tapping my feet to the numbers played,I finally got my ball dancing steps right,Thanks Archana! Then the drive on the palm beach road at 2.30 am cut short by the police patrol team and to end the celebrations, the first sunrise of ‘06 by the lakeside on the palm beach road.Tht was indeed Wow!!! After the sunrise came the sunset by the Worli sea face…Now me back at my insti enjoying the winter and gearing up for what seems to be a gruelling sem.

A friend to me:”I value your opinion coz of your difference of opinion.”
